Welcome to Year 2

Mrs Park, Mr Juckes & Miss Fordy

Year 2 is a fantastic year filled with exciting opportunities, new challenges and memorable experiences. As the final year of Key Stage 1, children continue to build on the strong foundations developed in Year 1 while growing in confidence, independence and resilience as learners.

At Lingfield, we inspire children to be curious, creative and ambitious. Our exciting curriculum brings learning to life through practical activities, investigations, educational visits and opportunities to explore the world around them. Whether solving mathematical challenges, becoming confident writers, discovering the past in History or carrying out scientific investigations, every day offers something new to learn and enjoy.

Children are encouraged to think deeply, ask questions and take ownership of their learning. We celebrate effort, perseverance and success, helping every child develop a positive growth mindset and the confidence to tackle challenges. Our nurturing and supportive environment ensures that all children feel valued, motivated and proud of their achievements.

Year 2 is a year of tremendous progress. It is always incredible to see how much children grow academically, socially and emotionally, leaving Key Stage 1 as confident, capable learners who are ready for the exciting adventure of Key Stage 2.

End of Key Stage 1

Throughout Year 2, children continue to strengthen their skills in Reading, Writing and Mathematics through engaging and purposeful learning experiences. Teachers carefully assess children’s progress and provide opportunities for them to demonstrate their understanding across the curriculum.

Reading remains a key priority, and we encourage all families to support their child’s development through regular reading at home. Sharing books together, discussing stories and practising key reading skills helps children to become fluent, confident readers who develop a lifelong love of reading.

By the end of Year 2, children have developed the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to take the next important step in their educational journey and embrace the challenges and opportunities that await them in Key Stage 2.
