Supporting Mental Health at Lingfield

Header swoosh

“Just as with physical health, we need to act early to provide support when a child is faced with emotional difficulties.”

— Catherine, Princess of Wales

At Lingfield Primary School, we believe that positive mental health is essential for children to thrive both academically and personally. When children feel safe, valued and supported, they are better able to learn, build positive relationships and develop resilience when facing challenges. We are committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every pupil feels a sense of belonging and knows that their thoughts, feelings and wellbeing matter. Through our curriculum, pastoral support, strong relationships and opportunities for pupil voice, we help children develop confidence, emotional awareness and strategies to manage their mental wellbeing. By promoting positive mental health across our school community, we equip our pupils with the skills they need to succeed both now and in the future.

Support Available in School

To further support the wellbeing of our pupils, Lingfield Primary School has a dedicated Mental Health and Wellbeing Support Worker, Miss Hewitt. Miss Hewitt works closely with children across the school, providing regular check-ins, emotional support and a trusted adult who pupils can turn to when they need someone to talk to. Whether a child is experiencing a worry, finding aspects of school life challenging, or simply needs some reassurance, Miss Hewitt is there to listen and help. By building positive relationships with our pupils and working alongside families and staff, she plays an important role in ensuring that every child feels supported, understood and valued. Having a key person available helps children develop confidence, cope with challenges and thrive both in school and beyond.

As part of our commitment to supporting the emotional wellbeing of all pupils, Lingfield Primary School also commissions therapeutic support through the Bungalow Partnership. This specialist service provides children with access to trained professionals who can offer individualised therapeutic interventions in a safe, nurturing and confidential environment. The support helps children explore and understand their feelings, develop coping strategies, build resilience and overcome barriers that may be affecting their wellbeing, confidence or engagement in school. By working closely with families, school staff and external agencies where appropriate, the Bungalow Partnership plays a valuable role in helping our pupils feel emotionally supported and ready to achieve their full potential.

Please browse ‘The Bungalow Partnership’ website for a greater understanding of the services they provide.

Accessing Support

At Lingfield Primary School, we work closely with families to ensure that children receive the support they need at the right time. If staff feel that a child may benefit from additional mental health or therapeutic support, they will discuss this with parents and carers in a sensitive and supportive way, exploring the options available through school. Equally, parents and carers are always encouraged to contact us if they have any concerns about their child’s emotional wellbeing or mental health. We believe that strong partnerships between home and school are key to supporting children effectively, and our staff are always available to listen, offer advice and help families access the most appropriate support for their child.

If your child would benefit from some support please contact Mrs Padgett or Mrs Jones, who will be happy to support and make the referral in to the best service to support your child’s needs.
