  • Year 2

Key Stage Two

The Foundation Stage

Within the foundation stage are seven areas of learning; these are split up into three prime areas and four specific areas.

The Prime Areas

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

The Specific Areas

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

These areas form the foundation of all learning that takes place in school.

Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2

As children move from Reception to Year 1 and until they leave us at the end of Year 6 we follow the National Curriculum.  The National Curriculum is divided into core subjects and foundation Subjects.

The core subjects are:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science

The foundation subjects are;

  • Computing
  • Art
  • History
  • Geography
  • Design and Technology
  • PE
  • Music

We also teach French, Personal Social, Health and Citizenship Education and R.E.

At each stage of school, our curriculum builds upon what has come before.  Therefore, in Key Stage 2, our curriculum builds upon what has been learnt in Key Stage 1.   Our Key Stage 1 Curriculum builds upon what has ben learnt in Early Years.

Each year group has a long term plan, found on the year group pages within this section. These plans detail which topics children will cover,  which subjects are taught and when.

At Lingfield Primary School, we know that getting the curriculum right for our pupils is vital in allowing them to achieve and be successful learners.  That is why our curriculum never stands still, it is continually being reviewed to ensure it is broad, balanced and relevant to all the pupils we serve.  Our school motto guides us in the work that we do in ensuring that our curriculum is fit for purpose in today’s modern world.

“Teach a child things that will be worth knowing as an adult; and things that having known as a child, make a person a better adult.”

Ultimately we want our pupils to go out into the world feeling confident, equipped with the knowledge and skills to make a positive contribution to the communities they live and work.

Reading is at the heart of all that we do at Lingfield, it is the foundation from which we build.  In the Early Years and Key Stage 1 a lot of time is spent ensuring that this fundamental skill is given the time it deserves by immersing children in a language rich environment where books are shared and celebrated.  We successfully teach early reading through our SoundsWrite Phonics Programme, details of which you can find in this section by clicking on the menu above.

Each term teachers send out curriculum newsletters with specific details about the term ahead.  If you would like to find out more about what is taught at Lingfield, by all means contact your child’s class teacher or Mr Thackstone our Head Teacher.
