Welcome to Year 3

Mr Carter & Mrs Bethell

Year 3 is an exciting milestone in your child’s education as they make the important transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2. It is a year filled with new opportunities, increased independence and exciting challenges that help children grow in confidence as learners.

At Lingfield, we ensure that this step up to Key Stage 2 is both supportive and inspiring. Building on the strong foundations established in Key Stage 1, children are encouraged to become increasingly responsible for their learning, develop their organisational skills and embrace new challenges with enthusiasm. Our nurturing environment helps children feel confident as they adapt to new expectations and discover what they are capable of achieving.

The Year 3 curriculum is rich, engaging and designed to spark curiosity. Children delve deeper into a wide range of subjects through practical investigations, creative projects, educational visits and collaborative learning experiences. Whether they are exploring fascinating periods in History, conducting scientific enquiries, developing their fluency in Mathematics or creating imaginative pieces of writing, every day provides exciting opportunities to learn and succeed.

We encourage children to ask questions, think critically and take pride in their work. Through high expectations and positive encouragement, we help every child develop resilience, independence and a growth mindset. Learning from mistakes is celebrated as part of the journey, helping children become confident and reflective learners.

Year 3 is a year of remarkable development, both academically and personally. As children settle into Key Stage 2, they grow in confidence, maturity and independence, preparing them for the exciting learning experiences that lie ahead in the junior years.

Life in Key Stage 2

As children move into Key Stage 2, they continue to strengthen their Reading, Writing and Mathematics skills while broadening their knowledge and understanding across the wider curriculum. There is a growing emphasis on developing fluency, reasoning, problem-solving and independent learning skills that will support future success.

Reading remains a key priority, and regular reading at home plays an important role in helping children build vocabulary, comprehension and confidence. We encourage families to continue sharing books, discussing texts and fostering a love of reading that will benefit children throughout their education.

By the end of Year 3, children have successfully embraced the transition to Key Stage 2 and developed the confidence, resilience and learning habits needed to flourish throughout the rest of their primary school journey.
