“Strong bodies build sharp minds. Through sport and play, we learn how to win with grace and bounce back with determination.”
| Our PE Intent |
At Lingfield Primary School, we are committed to providing high-quality physical education that inspires all children to develop confidence, resilience and a lifelong love of being active. We believe that PE plays a vital role in supporting children’s physical health, mental wellbeing and personal development, helping them to lead healthy and active lifestyles both now and in the future.
Our pupils take part in a wide range of competitive and non-competitive sporting activities, both within school and across the local community. Through these experiences, children develop important values such as fairness, respect, teamwork, determination and perseverance. We aim to ensure that every child feels included, challenged and successful in PE, regardless of their starting point.
At Lingfield Primary School, we use the The PE Hub to support the delivery of our curriculum. This provides a clear progression of knowledge and skills from Reception to Year 6 and ensures full coverage of the National Curriculum. Through engaging lessons and varied sporting opportunities, we equip children with the skills, confidence and motivation to enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle.
At Lingfield Primary School, we aim to:
- Develop children’s understanding that physical education is about much more than a PE lesson; it is about building healthy habits, understanding fitness and making positive lifestyle choices.
- Provide a broad and balanced PE curriculum that exposes children to a wide variety of sports, physical activities and movement experiences.
- Enable every child to discover activities they enjoy and can continue to participate in beyond primary school.
- Foster positive attitudes towards competition, teamwork and sportsmanship, encouraging fairness, respect and resilience.
- Build links with local sports clubs and community organisations to provide pathways for children to develop their interests and talents further.
- Promote an active school culture where children are encouraged to achieve at least 30 active minutes each day through PE lessons, active playtimes, daily activity initiatives and extracurricular opportunities.
- Ensure all children have opportunities to participate in intra-school and inter-school sporting events and competitions throughout the year.
- Support children’s mental health and emotional wellbeing through regular physical activity and positive experiences of sport.
- Develop children’s confidence, independence and determination, helping them to embrace challenge and strive for personal improvement.
- Encourage children to understand the importance of leading healthy, active lifestyles and the positive impact this has on both physical and mental wellbeing.
Through our PE curriculum, we strive to ensure that every child leaves Lingfield Primary School with the knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to lead an active, healthy and fulfilling life.
