“La connaissance des langues est la porte de la sagesse.” — Roger Bacon
(Knowledge of languages is the doorway to wisdom.)

At Lingfield Primary School, we believe that learning a modern foreign language broadens children’s horizons and helps them develop a greater understanding of the wider world. Through learning French, pupils gain valuable insights into another language and culture, while developing the confidence to communicate in new and exciting ways.

Our French curriculum provides engaging, practical lessons that enable children to listen, speak, read and write in French. Pupils are encouraged to express their ideas and thoughts using new vocabulary, phrases and sentences, building both their linguistic knowledge and their confidence as language learners.

Our Curriculum Intent

At Lingfield Primary School, we aim to:

  • Inspire a love of language learning and foster curiosity about different languages and cultures.
  • Develop children’s confidence, resilience and creativity when communicating in French.
  • Encourage pupils to explore and appreciate cultural diversity and develop an understanding of life in French-speaking countries.
  • Build strong foundations in the key language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
  • Enable pupils to apply their French learning in a variety of meaningful contexts.
  • Support children in becoming confident communicators and prepare them for further language learning in Key Stage 3.
  • Promote a positive attitude towards language learning and an appreciation of the benefits of being able to communicate with others around the world.
Our French Curriculum
