A Journey Through Learning at Lingfield

At Lingfield Primary School, every child embarks on a rich and exciting learning journey, carefully designed to nurture curiosity, build confidence, and inspire a lifelong love of learning. This journey is thoughtfully structured into three key phases:

🌱 The Foundation Stage

Nursery & Reception

The adventure begins in our nurturing Foundation Stage, where young learners take their first steps into the world of education. Here, play and exploration are at the heart of everything we do. Children are encouraged to be curious, creative, and confident as they discover the joy of learning.

Our Foundation Stage curriculum is built around seven key areas of learning, divided into:

The Prime Areas:

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

The Specific Areas:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

These areas form the bedrock of all future learning, helping children to develop essential skills in a warm, supportive environment.

✨ Key Stage One

Years 1 & 2

As children move into Key Stage One, their learning becomes more structured while still being full of wonder and discovery. We follow the National Curriculum, ensuring a broad and balanced education that builds on the strong foundations laid in the Early Years.

🚀 Key Stage Two

Years 3 to 6

In Key Stage Two, children deepen their understanding, develop independence, and prepare for the next stage of their educational journey. Our curriculum continues to grow with them, offering challenge, excitement, and opportunity.

📚 Our Curriculum: A Living, Breathing Experience

At Lingfield, we believe that a great curriculum is never static. It evolves to meet the needs of our pupils and the world they are growing up in. That’s why we continually review and refine what we teach to ensure it is broad, balanced, and relevant.

We follow the National Curriculum, which includes:

Core Subjects:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science

Foundation Subjects:

  • Computing
  • Art
  • History
  • Geography
  • Design & Technology
  • Physical Education
  • Music

We also enrich our curriculum with:

  • Latin
  • Religious Education
  • Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE)

Each year group has a long-term plan, available on our website, outlining the exciting topics and subjects your child will explore.

📖 Reading: The Heart of Our School

Reading is the golden thread that runs through everything we do. From Nursery to Year 6, we immerse children in a language-rich environment where books are celebrated and stories come alive. In the Early Years and Key Stage One, we use the Sounds-Write Phonics Programme to build strong foundations in early reading.

💬 Communication and Support

Each term, our teachers share curriculum newsletters to keep you informed about what’s coming up. We love to celebrate the achievements of our pupils through social media, please follow Lingfield Primary School on Facebook. If you’d like to know more, please don’t hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher or contact Mrs Padgett, our Head Teacher.

🌟 Our Guiding Principle

‘Great minds grow here at Lingfield’

At Lingfield, we’re not just preparing children for tests—we’re preparing them for life. We want every child to leave us confident, capable, and ready to make a positive difference in the world.
