| Our Music Intent |
At Lingfield Primary School, we believe that music is a powerful form of expression that enriches children’s lives, nurtures creativity, and builds self-confidence. Through engaging and inspiring musical experiences, our pupils develop as musicians, performers and appreciative listeners, fostering a lifelong love of music.
Children explore a wide range of musical styles and traditions, developing their understanding of how music reflects different cultures, communities and historical periods. They learn to listen critically, evaluate performances and compositions, and create their own music using both traditional instruments and modern technology.
We aim to:
- Make music an enjoyable, engaging and expressive learning experience for every child.
- Inspire a love of music through exposure to a diverse range of high-quality live and recorded music.
- Help children understand how music reflects and celebrates the rich diversity of the world around them.
- Enable all children to sing confidently, both independently and as part of a group.
- Provide opportunities for children to perform regularly within school and in the wider community.
- Ensure every child experiences learning to play a musical instrument.
- Develop self-confidence, creativity and imagination through opportunities for musical self-expression.
- Build musical knowledge and understanding through a carefully sequenced, repetition-based approach to learning.
- Teach children to understand and use basic musical notation and vocabulary, enabling them to perform successfully as part of an ensemble.
- Support children in composing and performing their own musical pieces using acoustic and electronic instruments.
- Develop children’s digital music skills, including recording, editing and mixing their own compositions using music technology.
| What Music Looks Like at Lingfield Primary School |
Our music curriculum provides children with opportunities to perform, compose, listen and evaluate across a wide range of musical genres. Through singing, instrumental work, music technology and performance opportunities, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to express themselves creatively and appreciate the power of music in the wider world.
Music plays an important role in school life, and we actively encourage children to share their talents through concerts, assemblies, celebrations and community events, helping them to develop resilience, confidence and a sense of achievement.
