PSHE

Header swoosh

“At our school, PSHE is the thread that weaves through everything we do. We give children the tools to understand their emotions, respect one another, and grow into confident, kind, and resilient individuals ready to change the world.”

Our Intent

At Lingfield Primary School, we want our teaching of Personal, Social, Health Education to be a whole-school approach that underpins children’s development as people because we believe that this supports their learning capacity in all areas of the curriculum.

Under section 78 of the Education Act 2002 and the Academies Act 2010, a PSHE curriculum:

•          Promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school and of society.

•          Prepares pupils at the school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

PSHE also supports the “Personal Development” and  “Behaviour and Attitude” aspects required under the Ofsted Inspection Framework, as well as significantly contributing to the school’s Safeguarding and Equality Duties, the Government’s British Values agenda and the SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social, Cultural) development opportunities we need to provide for our pupils.

At Lingfield Primary School, we value PSHE as one way to support children’s development as human beings, to enable them to understand and respect who they are, to empower them with a voice and to equip them for life and learning. We include the statutory Relationships and Health Education within our whole-school PSHE Programme. The golden thread of our PSHE programme is ‘Relationships’ and we want children to ultimately develop positive relationships, with themselves, others, the environment and the wider world.

We aim to:

  • Develop children’s understanding of physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, enabling them to make positive choices that support a healthy lifestyle.
  • Support children in exploring and responding thoughtfully to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues they may encounter as they grow and develop.
  • Encourage children to reflect on their experiences, recognise their personal strengths and understand how they are developing as individuals.
  • Foster respect, empathy and understanding for the diverse communities in which we live, celebrating differences and promoting inclusion.
  • Enable children to build positive, respectful and meaningful relationships that support both their personal wellbeing and their learning.
  • Equip children with the knowledge and skills to recognise, assess and manage risks, empowering them to make informed and responsible decisions.
  • Develop children’s understanding of their rights and responsibilities as members of society, preparing them to become active, responsible and respectful citizens.
  • Promote the core values of Lingfield Primary School, ensuring children leave us with the confidence, resilience and character needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.
Parent Information

All children are entitled to access the National Curriculum and cannot be withdrawn from National Curriculum subjects. Parents and carers have the right to discuss matters relating to Religious Education and Sex Education with the school, including the limited circumstances in which withdrawal from certain aspects of these subjects may be requested.

This version aligns well with Ofsted expectations by emphasising wellbeing, inclusion, citizenship, personal development, relationships and preparation for life in modern Britain.
