“Education is not just about going to school and getting a degree. It’s about widening your knowledge and absorbing the truth about the universe.”

| Our RE Intent |
At Lingfield Primary School, we recognise the important role that Religious Education (RE) plays in developing pupils’ understanding of themselves, others and the diverse world in which they live. RE makes a valuable contribution to pupils’ Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development and supports them in becoming respectful, thoughtful and responsible citizens.
Through the study of a range of world religions and beliefs, pupils develop an appreciation of different faiths, cultures and traditions. They learn to respect the views of others while reflecting on their own beliefs and values. This learning supports our commitment to promoting Fundamental British Values, including mutual respect, tolerance and individual liberty.
Our RE curriculum is based on the Middlesbrough Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education and is carefully planned to provide a progressive learning journey from Early Years through to Year 6. Lessons encourage curiosity, discussion and enquiry, helping pupils explore important questions about religion, belief, identity and meaning.
At Lingfield Primary School, we aim for all children to:
- Learn about and from a range of religions and worldviews, developing a deeper understanding of the world around them.
- Gain knowledge of major world faiths and beliefs, exploring the values, traditions and practices of different communities and cultures.
- Develop confidence in asking thoughtful questions about religion, belief and life experiences.
- Reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences while recognising and respecting that others may hold different views.
- Build empathy, tolerance and respect for diversity within modern British society.
- Enhance their learning through visits to local places of worship and visitors from different faith communities, providing meaningful real-life contexts for learning.
Children cannot be withdrawn from studying the National Curriculum, however there are some exceptions to this in relation to religious education and sex education, which can be discussed upon request.
